Turning Japanese

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to be posting for ReproDepot and hope to make or find lots of inspiration to share with you on this blog. Djerba (the store's owner) sent me a huge box of goodies last week and I dove right in.

The first thing I made was a super cute mother bird and chick from this Japanese kit. Although the instructions are in Japanese, they're in visual form. You can see a peek in the lower right corner of the picure-- they were pretty easy to understand. The kit includes everything you need, except for a needle and scissors--and all of the felt parts are pre-punched so you won't have to do a lot of cutting.
I don't usually do a lot of sewing from kits, but this was fun entertainment for an afternoon--especially with the cold snowy weather making an appearance. I think they'd make cute ornaments for your tree! Plus, if you're into making your own softies, sewing from a kit is a great way to learn some easy construction techniques for a full-bodied animal. The kit even includesa paper template so you can make multiples with your own materials. I think it'd make a perfect gift to give your favorite sewer this holiday season. Check out all of the other cool animals and food stuffies online- I'm working on the Panda next. I love his little beret.
